YG Small Water Well Drilling Rig for Farm Irrigation

This case study presents how a Romanian farming cooperative solved severe agricultural water shortages with YG small water well drilling rigs. Suffering from extreme drought and total crop losses due to lack of irrigation, the cooperative sought reliable drilling equipment and adopted the YG-240-30P crawler drilling rig. Featuring strong adaptability for soft, uneven farmland, the efficient machines successfully drilled six water wells of 45–90 meters deep, providing stable irrigation water for 47 local farming families. Summer 2025

Water Shortage Begins

A farming cooperative near Târgu Mureș, Romania, faced severe water shortages. The previous summer, 30 families lost their entire tomato crop due to a lack of irrigation.

Early 2026

Finding the Right YG Small Water Well Drilling Rig

After seeing a video of a farmer using a crawler small water well drilling rig in Serbia, the cooperative manager researched small water well drilling rigs for sale and chose the YG-240-30P.

Spring 2025

First Well Completed

The cooperative drilled its first well to 72 meters, reaching clear groundwater at about 6 liters per minute. The crawler tracks helped the rig move across soft and uneven farmland.

Four Months Later

Six Wells Completed

Six Wells Completed: The cooperative purchased three YG-240 units and drilled six wells ranging from 45 to 90 meters deep. All six wells reached water, providing irrigation for 47 farming families.

Later in 2026

Neighboring Cooperative Takes Action

Inspired by the results, a nearby cooperative ordered its own small water well drilling rigs and planned to drill six wells across 200 hectares of farmland.

If You’re in a Similar Situation, Here’s What I’d Tell You

To anyone in rural Europe, or anywhere really, who’s dealing with unreliable water and wondering about a small water well drilling rig — here’s my honest advice:

  1. Know your geology. Talk to your local geological survey office. In Romania, the Agenția Națională pentru Resurse Minerale has groundwater maps for most regions. Knowing what’s beneath your soil — clay, gravel, limestone — tells you which model to choose and which bits to buy.
  2. Choose the crawler version without hesitation. If your land has any slope or soft ground — and most farmland does — the tracks make all the difference. I cannot imagine doing what we did with a wheeled machine on our soil.
  3. Start with the 30P if your geology is uncertain. The extra power, thicker rods, and higher lifting force give you a margin of safety when you hit unexpected rock or hard layers. The 22P is great for known, simple geology, but the 30P handles surprises better.
  4. Prepare your drilling fluid before you start. Bentonite is cheap, easy to find, and prevents borehole collapse. I mixed mine the night before drilling started. Don’t learn this lesson the hard way like I almost did.
  5. Keep spare bits — at least three per well. Different soil layers need different bits. I carry a drag bit for clay, a hammer bit for rock, and a PDC bit for mixed gravel. Going through bits is normal. Running out mid-well is not.

Gavrilă Was Right. The Video Changed Everything.

I think about that video my friend Gavrilă sent me almost every day. A farmer in Serbia, drilling his own well, one person, three days, water flowing.

If Gavrilă hadn’t sent that video, I’d still be searching for small water well drilling rigs and wondering if it was possible. If I hadn’t driven 600 kilometers to see the machine in person, I might have kept hesitating. And if I hadn’t taken the risk, our cooperative would still be arguing about water every August.

Now we argue about what to plant next season. That’s a much better problem to have.

The crawler small water well drilling rig didn’t just drill wells in our village. It gave us something more valuable than any machine can normally provide — certainty. We know the water is there. We know we can reach it. And we know that next summer, when the rain doesn’t come, our fields will stay green.

That’s worth more than any small water well drilling machine price tag could ever tell you.
