For a poultry farm with 50,000 laying hens, egg trays are not a small expense. Every day, thousands of eggs need to be packed, stored, and transported safely.
YG’s customer in Ghana faced exactly this problem. He was buying trays from outside, but supply was sometimes late, tray quality was inconsistent, and weak trays contributed to egg breakage. At the same time, he had access to waste paper and cartons that had little value.
Instead of continuing to buy trays, he decided to produce them himself.
After reviewing his egg output, raw materials, available space, power supply, and plans, we recommended the YGDT4×4-2500 egg tray production line, with a production capacity of 2,500 pcs/h.

50,000 Hens, 40,000 Eggs a Day — So How Many Trays Did He Need?
The customer is located near Kumasi, Ghana. He operates a medium-sized poultry farm with approximately 50,000 laying hens.
His main business is egg production. He supplies eggs to local markets, wholesalers, hotels, and small shops, and also operates his own small delivery trucks.
Based on his daily egg production, he produces around 40,000 eggs per day.
This meant that egg trays were a daily operating necessity, not an occasional purchase.
He did not want to simply buy a machine.
He wanted to know whether the complete project would actually work for his farm.
That meant answering several practical questions:
- How many trays can the machine make?
- Can it meet his daily demand?
- What raw materials can he use?
- How much space does the line need?
- What happens during the rainy season?
- How can he control egg tray quality?
- What equipment is included in the complete line?
- How much can each tray really cost?

Natural Drying or Metal Drying? The Rainy Season Changed the Decision
Drying was one of the customer’s biggest concerns.
Ghana has a hot climate, so natural drying can be considered. However, the customer wanted more consistent production and did not want the rainy season to interrupt his tray production.
For this reason, we discussed different drying options with him.
| Drying Method | Suitable Situation |
|---|---|
| Natural drying | Suitable when weather and available space allow |
| Brick drying line | Suitable for customers with appropriate drying space |
| Single-layer metal drying line | More controlled drying and suitable for more consistent production |
| Multilayer metal drying line | Suitable when higher production requires more compact drying |
For this project, the customer chose the single-layer metal drying line.
The reason was simple: he wanted more stable drying instead of depending completely on outdoor weather conditions.
Six Questions the Ghana Customer Asked Before Buying
The customer had several concerns before placing the order. These were not technical questions for the sake of technology. They were questions about whether the machine would actually work in his business.

The Numbers After Installation: What Changed?
After installation and commissioning, the project produced several measurable results.
| Performance | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Tray supply | Purchased from outside | Produced on-site |
| Machine capacity | — | 2,500 pcs/h |
| Daily farm requirement | About 1,333 trays | Covered in less than 1 hour of production |
| Egg breakage | About 4% | About 1.2% |
| Tray cost | About $0.045/tray | About $0.026/tray |
| Monthly tray production | — | About 250,000 trays |
| Additional business | — | Extra trays sold to other farmers |
| Downtime caused by paper impurities | Higher | Reduced by more than 60% |
| Installation & commissioning | Usually 18 days | 12 days |
Tray cost reduction
The customer’s tray cost decreased from approximately $0.045 to $0.026 per tray.
That means the saving was:
$0.045 − $0.026 = $0.019 per tray
At approximately 250,000 trays per month, the estimated monthly saving was:
250,000 × $0.019 = $4,750
This is why looking at the cost per tray is more useful than looking at the egg tray machine price alone.

He Was Not Just Making His Own Trays — He Started Selling Them
The original purpose of the project was to supply trays for his own poultry farm.
But the 2,500 pcs/h egg tray production line gave him additional production capacity.
His farm needed approximately:
1,333 trays/day
The machine could produce:
2,500 trays/hour
So the customer could produce his own daily requirement in less than one hour of machine operation, leaving additional production capacity for other orders.
He began selling extra trays to nearby poultry farmers and local markets.
This changed the project from simply a cost-saving solution into an additional business opportunity.
Before the project
Buy trays → depend on suppliers → accept delivery schedules → deal with quality problems
After the project
Process waste paper → produce trays → supply own farm → sell extra trays
That was one of the most important changes for the customer.

Customer Feedback: “Now I Control My Own Tray Supply”
After the machine was installed and running, the customer shared his feedback:
“I was worried about the price and the drying. You showed me the real cost and the metal drying line. Now my farm has its own trays. The machine is running well. I am selling trays to other farmers too. I will add more molds later.”
His biggest change was simple:
He now controls his own tray supply.
Who Can Benefit From an Egg Tray Production Line?
This type of project is not limited to large egg farms.
An egg tray production machine may also be considered by businesses that have a stable supply of waste paper and a local market for egg trays.
Suitable customers may include:
| Customer Type | Possible Use |
|---|---|
| Poultry farms | Produce trays for their own eggs |
| Large egg distributors | Reduce dependence on outside tray suppliers |
| Paper recycling businesses | Turn waste paper into a finished product |
| Poultry supply businesses | Produce and sell trays locally |
| Agricultural businesses | Combine tray production with existing farm operations |
| Entrepreneurs | Produce trays for nearby poultry farms |
The most important point is not simply choosing the largest machine.
The right production line should match your daily demand, raw material supply, available space, power conditions, drying method, and future sales plan.
